Welcome to EWRT 1A
Welcome to English 1A! I am extremely excited to be working and learning with all of you this quarter! This class requires work, but if you are dedicated to the class and complete all of the assignments, you will improve! Throughout the quarter, I’ll be asking you to give me feedback at the end of each unit about the course and how things are going for you. Please be honest! Your feedback helps me improve this course during this quarter and in future quarters. Though I will guide our class, it is important to remember I am not the only teacher in the class. Instead, we will create a community in which to freely discuss ideas, so that you may also learn from each other’s unique perspectives. Thus, your participation in the discussion forums is essential for creating a successful and fun class!
This online class may be different from others you have completed, so please make sure to carefully read my syllabus(It will be sent out by Tuesday of Spring Break). To get started though, here are a few points I’d like to emphasize:

About Me:
As a full-time English Instructor for De Anza College, I have the privilege to work with the best students every quarter, as well as to watch as your amazing ideas and critical thoughts come to life through your writing.
I started my educational career at West Valley College as a developmental English student and with the help of amazing teachers, I earned an AA in English, went to SJSU to earn a BA in English, and finished up at SFSU where I earned an MA in English Literature with a focus on Renaissance Drama and Shakespeare.
I have been teaching at De Anza College since 2006 and working at Community Colleges in the Bay Area since 2004. Currently, I work in the Counseling, Reading, English, and Math(CREM) learning community, serve as the 211 Portfolio Coordinator, and teach a variety of Composition and Literature classes.
When not teaching you can usually find me out hiking local trails, training for 5k or 10k races, doing yoga, cooking, gardening, wonderlusting for new places to travel, or taking photos. If you have recommendation for any of those, please let me know. :)
As a person with a learning disability, I am committed to supporting and with people with learning differences. If you are a person with a learning disability, please do not hesitate to let me know so that I can help you navigate the class in a way that works best for you.
Please visit me in my office in F61E or email me at [email protected]. You can also fill out the below form, or click the envelope button in the upper right hand corner.
